Community Sanitation Overview:
Water is derived from Muskox Creek. A flush/haul system began construction in 1992. Five homes were installed in 1995 and 13 more were added by 1999. Most residents currently haul water from six watering points. There are 13 honeybucket hoppers situated along the length of the village, serving 66 houses. The community relies on the washeteria for laundry and bathing. The school provides its own piped water system, and sewage discharges to the village drainfield. The landfill and washeteria need to be upgraded. Electricity is provided by AVEC. There is one school located in the community, attended by 110 students. Local hospitals or health clinics include Tununak Clinic (652-6829). Tununak is classified as an isolated village, it is found in EMS Region 7A in the Yukon/Kuskokwim Region. Emergency Services have coastal and air access. Emergency service is provided by a health aide  
RUBA Status & Activities This Qtr:
Bethel RUBA Staff received an email from Anchorage supervisors of the correspondance from Tununak IRA Council. The correspondance contained a petition signed by community members and an MOA from the Tununak Traditional Elders Council(TTEC) supporting transfer of operation and maintenance of the W/S utilities to the Tununak IRA Council. The Tununak IRA Council in turn mailed a request for RUBA Assessment to the Bethel Staff, which was denied because the MOA signed by the TTEC was not in an acceptable format. It does not detail what is involved in the MOA. Bethel Staff sent a sample MOA to the Tununak IRA Administrator to review and present to the IRA and TTEC Council. The TTEC seems to be stalling on the agreement because the MOA would give complete transferral and control of the W/S utilities to the IRA Council. This control of the utilities by the IRA Council needs to happen in order to release funds for the Water/Sewer project. The Bethel staff is waiting for news that the new MOA is accepted and signed by both entities in the community of Tununak. 
RUBA Activities for the Coming Qtr:
-Keep in contact with the Administrator of Tununak IRA Council. -Plan travel to Tununak for Community Assessment of the IRA Council as soon as the MOA or transfer of W/S utilities have been done.
