Community Sanitation Overview:
Water from Gold Creek is treated and hauled by residents from the washeteria. Water is also hauled from the Takotna Waterworks. Approximately 20% of homes have storage tanks with running water for the kitchen, but no homes are completely plumbed. Community buildings use individual wells and septic tanks. Honeybuckets and outhouses are used for sewage disposal. A feasibility study for water and sewer improvements is complete, but funds have not been secured for construction.  
RUBA Status & Activities This Qtr:
RUBA staff has attempted to maintain communication with the Native Village of Takotna to offer assistance as needed, however emails and contacts to the community have not been returned. Phil Gagnon at Village Safe Water is assigned this community. Three years ago, Terry Hoffman was the administrator of the community, and during his tenure, he and Phil developed a utilities master plan and did a feasibility study on proposed projects. Phil secured funding. Then Terry left the administrator position and was never replaced (as far as Phil knows). Phil has made a considerable effort to connect with a representative of the community and has been unable to. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of funding have been earmarked for this community to upgrade their water treatment facility, extend the water main, upgrade in-house plumbing and add on-site septic systems in 7 homes and extend service line to the school. These monies cannot be released until the community updates their RUBA assessment and assigns a contact person to communicate with Village Safe Water about the projects.  
RUBA Activities for the Coming Qtr:
RUBA staff recommends a current on-site assessment be conducted within the next quarter. Our hope is to set a date to initiate a comprehensive on-site assessment for this community.
