Community Sanitation Overview:
Water is derived from a well and is treated. BIA and HUD housing, and water and sewer systems built by PHS in 1974, have provided residents wth piped water and sewer, indoor water heaters and plumbing and in-home washers and dryers. Waste flows out to a sewage treatment plant with ocean outfall. The landfill is not permitted. The City needs a new water source, since water shortages occur and to replace cracked PVC pipes.

RUBA staff continues to discuss the past RUBA assessment made in the early part of the year and the work is on-going to meet the essential and sustainable indicators. 
RUBA Activities for the Coming Qtr:
Nome RUBA staff will monitor the utilities as needed and provide telephonic assistance. RUBA staff may make at least one trip to the community to discuss revision of the city's code of ordinances, including the w/s utility ordinance.

Finances Comments
The city participates in the Norton Sound Economic Development Corporation's fuel purchase program. Adequate amount needed for winter use has been ordered and delivered to the city. The city has completed and submitted its FY '10 budget, including the w/s utility department. The w/s utility department is one of the oldest utilities in this region and has successfully been kept on-going for the last 25-30 years.

The city has been using Quickbooks Pro for the last several years. The bookkeeper is fairly efficient with using the accounting system and has worked there for years as well. She was previously a bookkeeper in the neigboring city of Golovin.

The city clerk has made improvements with the filing system and other functions of the city. The city has used the same personnel policies for years and is adequate to meet the personnel issues.
