Community Sanitation Overview:
The piped water and sewer system was construction by NOAA during the 1950s. Four wells provide water for the community and the harbor with there being 250,000 gallons of storage. Sixty residences are connected to the system and are plumbed. Funds are being sought to replace the failing storage tank and distribution systems. Sewage outfall discharges into the harbor. The City provides refuse collection services.

Documents recieved from the City of Saint George. Not all requested documents were recieved as of January 4, 2011. Contact with the mayor and he stated that he will delegate city staff to send the ordinances and policies and procedures. 
RUBA Activities for the Coming Qtr:
Followup on city council training request. RUBA staff will continue to be available to provide any assistance requested to enable St. George to pass the essential indicators.

Finances Comments
Updated budget requested on April 24, 2010 via mail. The City has a purchasing policy in place. THe electric utility os run by the city as well as the water and sewer utility. The clerk does transfer funds to track all expences for the utility, i.e. electric billing. The City Administrator reports that the Saint George City Council meets the second tuesday of every month.

July 14, 2010; IRS Taxpayer fax stated that Form 941's are needed with payments for forth quarter 2007, third quarter 2009, forth quarter 2009, and first quarter 2010. The March to April 2010 lien watch report lists the City of Saint George has recorded Alaska Employment Security Tax Liens. Lein paperwork has been requested from the Juneau DCRA staff on June 29, 2010. Lien has been taken care of and Certificate to release the lean was located and was paid. ESC statement from 10/4/10 has granted the city tax clearance.

Worker's compensation insurance is verified with a call to AML/JIA on July 6, 2010 and is valid through July 1, 2011. Personnel folders maintained in Saint George and were not available for review during the assessment. The utility adopted personnel policy is comprehensive and includes all the necessary items though it may need up-dating since there is reference to full-time employees being allowed to use comp time in lieu of overtime. Employees are recruited from Saint George and elsewhere to get the best qualified person for the position. New hires have a six month probationary period. Employees receive paid leave and paid holidays. Job descriptions are maintained for all positions.
