| PROGRAM
GOALS:
The goals of the Emergency Shelter Grant Program are
to assist with the following activities relating to emergency shelter
for the homeless: renovation, major rehabilitation, or conversions
of buildings for use as emergency shelters for the homeless; payment
of maintenance, operation, insurance, utilities, and furnishings; payment
for provision of essential community services including those concerned
with employment, health, substance abuse, education, food, or prevention.
RESOURCES
PROVIDED: Competitive
grants up to a maximum amount identified annually. ELIGIBILITY:
Any
Municipal government entity (cities and boroughs) with a population between
5,000 and 100,000 persons. Population data taken from the most recent
Alaska Community Database, which uses 2007 population estimates, as certified
by the Department of Commerce, Community & Economic Development.
Private non-profit organizations located within a municipal government
entity defined above. The Municipal government entity in which the proposed
project is to be located must certify that it approves of the project
before it can be considered for funding.
Assistance may be provided to a religious organization if the religious
organization agrees to provide all eligible activities under this program
in a manner free from religious influences and in accordance with certain
principles identified by the State of Alaska.
PROGRAM STATUS:
During
Federal Fiscal Year 2008 approximately
$121,740.00
is available for distribution
statewide. Competitive Grant Applications are generally distributed to
eligible applicants one time each year.
