Kodiak Fisheries Industrial Technology Center

The Kodiak Fisheries Industrial Technology Center is a research and development facility dedicated to improving the harvesting, processing, preserving, and packaging of Alaska’s seafood. In addition to developing new value-added products, (including puffed salmon products, jarred smoked salmon, comitrol flaked salmon, and ready-to-eat single serving salmon entrees), the center researches techniques to increase the efficiency of seafood operations and the value of Alaska seafood. Research includes the following projects:
  • Reduction of by-catch and more complete utilization of fish
  • More efficient processing methods
  • Enhancement of the quality and texture of seafood products
  • Reduction of exposure to microbes
  • Increase in seafood shelf life

The center is also committed to conveying the results of their studies to the public and to providing educational opportunities.
