Alaska statutes prohibit unlicensed practice. Specifically, AS 08.68.360 states that the practice of professional or practical nursing for compensation by a person who is not licensed, or whose license is suspended, or revoked, or expired, is declared to be inimical to the public welfare and to constitute a public nuisance.
Application by Examination
Application by examination is applicable if you have completed an approved nursing program and have not yet taken/passed the NCLEX.
Application by Endorsement
Application by endorsement is applicable for individuals currently licensed in another U.S. state or territory and some Canadian nurses licensed before 1992.
Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools
Graduates of a foreign nursing school outside of the U.S. and Canada (except Quebec) must complete the credential evaluation from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS). Find more information about requirements for foreign graduates at the CGFNS website.
