For applicants applying for Certification by Examination as a Direct-Entry Midwife (form #08-4215), the applicant must meet the application requirements and pass the examination required in 12 AAC 14.300.
The examination required for certification as a direct-entry midwife is the national examination prepared and graded by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). The NARM exam is offered two times per year on the third Wednesday in February and August of each year in Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau.
Applications to take the Northern American Registry of Midwives Examination (NARM) must be received in the division Juneau office at least 60 days before the date of the examination for which you are applying.

Once the above documents are received and fully complete, the applicant will be notified and they may contact NARM to register for the examination.
Both the registration and examination fee of $700.00 must be completed directly with NARM. Do not send any exam fees to the State of Alaska. Division staff will notify both the applicant and NARM when the applicant has met the State of Alaska requirements to take the NARM exam.
