Export Training

Beginning an export business can seem like a daunting endeavor, but with the right training it is achievable.

The STEP program training will help you learn export laws, how to protect your sale, cultural differences, where trade centers are located, and unique business practices to help you meet your business goals in the dynamic Chinese business environment.

The University of Alaska’s Center for Economic Development, in partnership with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program and the Alaska Small Business Development Center, are conducting workshops throughout Alaska. Course instructors will also hold time for one-on-one consultations with interested business owners and managers.

The course will cover subjects such as:

  • Export Law and Documentation
  • Understanding Chinese 
  • Culture in Business Practices
  • Basic Business Tips
  • Overview in Currency Management
  • Transaction Assurance
  • Setting Up your Export Strategy

Training Events:

Each training program will last approximately four hours each morning.  Attendees may set up half-hour confidential appointments with instructors in the afternoons.

  • Anchorage, April 24, 8:30am-12:00pm (space is limited to 25 people)
    • At the Alaska Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program office

  • Kenai, April 26, 8:30am-12:00pm (space is limited to 80 people)
    • At the Kenai River Center, 514 Funny River Road in Soldotna
  • Juneau, May 8, 8:30am-12:00pm (space is limited to 50 people)
    • At the University of Alaska Southeast campus at 11120 Glacier Hwy in the Egan Library (downstairs in the UATV classroom)
  • Statewide:
    • April 19, 8:30am – 12:00pm: The Fairbanks class has video conferencing connection to other University facilities. 
      Must sign up 7 days in advance.
    • April 24, 8:30am – 12:00pm: The Anchorage class has video conferencing connection to other University facilities.
      Must sign up 7 days in advance.
    • May 8, 8:30am – 12:00pm: The Juneau class will be available on several cable stations, satellite, and multiple University sites throughout Alaska (see link UATV cable and other venues) and live streaming through the Internet (click link for UATV Internet)
