RE: English & American Insurance Company Ltd.

On March 17, 1993, the Division of Insurance was informed that the English & American Insurance Company Ltd. has filed for voluntary liquidation. The division's Surplus Lines Section called the U.S. counsel for the company to confirm this information. On March 18, 1993, the company's counsel informed us that, the company voluntarily suspended its underwriting activity sometime in January 1993; and the company has "filed to seek a scheme of arrangement for provisional liquidation." This is explained as similar to a Chapter 11 proceeding in Bankruptcy.

Therefore, effective March 18, 1993, the English & American Insurance Company Ltd. is no longer an eligible surplus lines insurer. Please inform your insureds of this development.
