Continuing Education Information

The Alaska Board of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy has created a continuing education worksheet to guide licensees. This is a tool to assist you in management of your certificates.

Physical Therapists and Assistants refer to
12 AAC 54.400-435 for current continuing education requirements.

Occupational Therapists and Assistants refer to
12 AAC 54.700-725 for current continuing education requirements.

Continuing education must be directly related to patient care.

The following activities will not be accepted for continuing education contact hours:

  1. Routine staff meetings attended by the applicant;
  2. Rounds conducted by the applicant;
  3. Routine courses required for employment: CPR, first aid, training related to OSHA requirements, etc.
  4. Courses related to animal therapy, such as canine and equine rehabilitation.

Physical and Occupational Therapists who have been engaged in active duty military service in armed forces of the United States during the concluding licensing period for which continuing education is required may be exempt from meeting continuing education required for license renewal.  Please review the appropriate regulation for your license type:
