Board of Social Work Examiners The Board of Social Work Examiners is staffed by the Division of Corporations, Business, and Professional Licensing. The board consists of two licensed social workers, one licensed master social worker, one licensed baccalaureate social worker and one public member. Board members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Legislature. The Board adopts regulations to carry out laws governing the practice of social work in Alaska. It makes final licensing decisions and takes disciplinary actions against people who violate licensing laws. Fraud Alert: Impersonation of Licensing Unit or Licensing Investigations Unit We have received reports of fraudulent communications from people claiming to be investigators or licensing examiners in our office. These include fraudulent emails asking for documents through a provided link, calls from “investigators” stating a licensee’s name is associated with criminal activity, and even calls followed by convincing license action letters. If you receive such a call, please consider hanging up and calling our Investigations Unit at (907) 269-8124 to confirm legitimacy. If you receive such an email, do not click the link or respond – we will never send you a link to upload your documents through. If you are unsure of the legitimacy of the communication you received and wish to double check with our office, you can also contact our Investigations Unit via email at Investigations@Alaska.Gov. NOTICE OF ADOPTED CHANGES IN THE REGULATIONS OF THE ALASKA BOARD OF SOCIAL WORK EXAMINERS FOR UPDATES REGARDING CLINICAL SUPERVISION, CODE OF ETHICS, AND CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS. The Board of Social Work Examiners adopted regulation changes in Title 12, Chapter 18 of the Alaska Administrative Code, dealing with adding regulations for clinical supervisors, and updating clinical supervision requirements, the social worker code of ethics, and continuing education hours for renewals including the following: 12 AAC 18.112. Continued competency; 12 AAC 18.210. Continuing education requirement, were adopted to update regulation references to streamline the language, and to require at least ten contact hours of continuing education to be received via ‘live’, ‘live online’ or ‘synchronous training courses’ for renewals. 12 AAC 18.113. Clinical supervisor requirements, was adopted to create regulations and guidelines for clinical supervisors to start after June 30, 2026, including a minimum amount of experience and continuing education requirements. 12 AAC 18.115. Supervision of experience for clinical social work license, was adopted to remove an outdated reference and to update the approval process for an alternate method of supervision. 12 AAC 18.150. Social worker code of ethics, was adopted to update the NASW Code of Ethics adopted by reference to the most recent version approved by NASW.
