Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office History of Marijuana Control in Alaska 2014-2015 In 2014 Alaskan voted to tax and regulate the production, sale and use of marijuana with Ballot Measure 4(13PSUM). The Marijuana Control Board and the preliminary statutes relating to the tax, sale, and use of marijuana was created with the Alaska Legislature through HB123. Governor Walker made his first appointments to the Marijuana Control Board in July 2015 2016 The Marijuana Control Board adopted the first set of regulations which became effective February 21, 2016. The Marijuana Control Board began reviewing complete applications in June. The first marijuana establishment license was issued in August. The first marijuana testing facility, CannTest became operational in October. The first retail store license was issued to Remedy Shoppe Skagway Alaska on October 4th, 2016. From February to December AMCO had 90 applications were reviewed by the Marijuana Control Board. 2017 For the first renewal cycle 113 licenses were operating and were required to renew their license. The Marijuana Control Board revoked their first license for Frozen Budz 2018 The Marijuana Control Board was extended for the first time through the Alaska Legislature, with HB273. For the 2018 renewal cycle 219 licenses were operating and were required to renew their license. Ballot Measure 4 Facts In 2014 Alaska had 509011 registered voters, 285449 (56.1%) of registered voters cast their votes in 2014. 279945 voters cast their vote for Ballot Measure 4. 149021 voters cast a Yes vote for Ballot Measure 4, which is 29.3% of total registered voters. 130924 voters cast a No vote for Ballot Measure 4, which is 25.7% of the total registered voters.
