Board of Certified Real Estate Appraisers The Board of Certified Real Estate Appraisers is staffed by the Division of Corporations, Business, and Professional Licensing. The Board consists of one general real estate appraiser, one residential real estate appraiser, one mortgage banking executive, one public member, and one at-large member. Board members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Legislature. The Board adopts regulations to carry out the laws governing real estate appraisal practice in Alaska. It makes final certification decisions and takes disciplinary action against people who violate the certification laws. The Board meets two times a year and offers a scheduled public comment period at each meeting. Meeting dates and agendas are available from the licensing examiner. February 2023 Continuing Education Regulation Update: Continuing education regulations have been updated to allow for 100% of continuing education to be completed in an online platform (effective March 5, 2023.) 12 AAC 70.220. HOURS OF CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIRED. (a) At the time of certificate renewal, an applicant for renewal who has been certified for (1) 24 months or more shall document satisfactory completion of at least 28 hours of continuing education during the concluding licensing period; (2) at least 185 days, but less than 24 months, shall document satisfactory completion of at least 14 hours of continuing education during the concluding licensing period; (3) less than 185 days is not required to meet continuing education requirements for that renewal. (b) The board will not recognize continuing education hours claimed by an applicant for renewal for taking the same, or substantially identical, course more than once during a certification period. (c) Except as provided in (d) of this section, credit is given for classroom and examination hours only and not for hours devoted to class preparation or completion of assignments. A classroom hour is defined in 12 AAC 70.910. (d) Hours required by this section may be obtained through online courses approved under 12 AAC 70.210 or online courses approved under 12 AAC 70.215. (e) As part of the requirements of (a)(1) of this section, an applicant for renewal of a certificate shall document satisfactory completion of a seven-hour National USPAP Update Course, taught by an Appraiser Qualifications Board certified instructor who is a certified appraiser. The board will accept courses determined as equivalent by the Appraiser Qualifications Board Course Approval Program of the Appraisal Foundation. Completion of the 15-hour national USPAP course used for certification under 12 AAC 70.115 may not be used to satisfy the continuing education renewal requirements of the sevenhour USPAP Update Course required in this subsection. (f) During the licensing period of July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2021, an unlimited number of the hours required by this section may be obtained through distance education described in (d) of this section. Per regulation, courses are required to be Board approved at the time of taking the course. The state website does have a search engine to locate Board approved courses. Appraisal Management Companies Annual Report Appraisal Management Companies (AMC) registered with the State of Alaska are required to report annually to the department for each appraiser on their appraiser panel who has performed an appraisal for a federally covered transaction in the state within the preceding calendar year. This report should be completed, and appropriate fees submitted, using form #08-4730. AMCs who qualify will be placed on the federal ASC registry for Appraisal Management Companies. This registry will be updated in July of each year. Federally regulated AMCs shall report annually using the same form #08-4730. This form contains provisions for these AMCs to report and pay the associated fee as well. AMC annual reports are due no later than June 30th each year. A “Make a Payment” link will be available within your license details page under “Actions”. A $20 filing fee is required for each verification of license. Completed Request You will be sent a notification email with a link to your license details page when the request is completed. Please allow up to 10 business days for processing after submitting your payment. If you prefer to submit a check or money order, you may mail in the Request License Verification form.
