Retired License Status

There is no process to retire a license. Your license will go into lapsed status if not renewed and will remain in lapsed status for five years. During the lapsed period, you may reinstate your license by submitting proof of completion of the continuing education requirements for renewal. At the end of the five-year lapsed period, your license will automatically move to expired status.

Supervision Hours

For supervision hours to count towards your full licensure, you must have your application and supervised practice plan approved by the Board prior to beginning your supervised experience.

Review of Degree Course Work

The Board will only review degree course work once an application, supporting documentation, and applicable fees have been received. Applications by psychological associate, examination, and credentials contain an education course work check sheet that can aid you in determining if your course work meets requirements.

APA College Course Equivalency

The state of Alaska statutes and regulations do not clearly define the education requirements needed to match the APA standards. Please visit the APA site to seek what will constitute equivalent college courses.

If your degree program is not APA accredited, you may use the master education course work check sheet or the doctoral education course work check sheet found in the psychological associate application and psychologist application by examination at the Board of Psychologists and Psychological Associates Webpage to aid you in determining if your course work meets requirements.

At the time you submit an application with the state of Alaska, if you have taken courses from a college not accredited by the APA, you are asked to complete the proof of internship form found in the application by examination (Form #08-4113g).

Master’s Practicum vs. Pre-Doctoral Internship

A supervised practicum required for a master’s degree, is separate from a predoctoral internship. It is required to have one year of full-time residence at the degree granting institution for your doctorate degree. This pre-doctoral internship must include components found in 12 AAC 60.083 (a)(4) of the psychology statutes and regulations.

No EPPP Score

Evidence of a passing score on the EPPP is required to be sent from ASPPB or from the testing jurisdiction. If, at the time you were initially licensed, the state of licensure did not require an applicant to sit for the EPPP, verification of that information will need to be sent directly to the division from that state.

Submission of Supporting Documentation for an Application

You may send in supporting documentation before you send in your application. However, after one year of the date received, documents are considered “stale” and will be marked VOID. If your application is not received within 1 year after a document is received, you will need to submit an updated document. Stale documents cannot be added to an application.

Application Processing Time

Once your completed application, all applicable fees and supporting documents have been received by the division, it can take 10-14 business days for your application to be processed and submitted to the board. Please allow an additional four to six weeks for the Board to review your application and make a decision. We will contact you through the MyLicense portal about the Board’s decision.

Obtain Transcripts from Closed School

Contact your state registrar’s office to obtain a copy of your transcripts in the event your degree granting school has closed.

Verification of License

The state of Alaska no longer provides hard copy verification of license. You may find a copy of your free primary source verification of license by clicking this link State of Alaska Professional License Lookup.

Request for List of Licensees

A list of active licenses holders with their name, license number, license type and mailing address may be downloaded from our website at no cost to you. Database Download found here. We are mandated per our statutes and regulations to correspond with our licensees via postal mail and do not require license holders to provide email addresses or telephone numbers to us. Therefore, we do not distribute that information.

You are welcome to submit a public records request to our division; the request can be found by clicking this link CBPL Public Records Request.

Teletherapy Service to Alaskans by Out-of-State Psychologists

You must be licensed in Alaska to treat clients relocating to, living, or working in the state of Alaska. You may apply for a courtesy license, which allows for 30 days of practice in a 12-month period. The courtesy license can only be issued once in a lifetime and is not renewable. You may need to register with the Telemedicine Business Registry. You may inquire as to whether this is required by contacting businesslicense@alaska.gov. If your client is only visiting or vacationing in Alaska no courtesy license is needed.

TeleMedicine

Businesses engaged in the practice of telemedicine are required to register for placement on the Telemedicine Business Registry (TBR). Please see the Telemedicine Business Registry FAQs for more information regarding telemedicine registrations through www.BusinessLicense.Alaska.Gov.

Face-to-Face Supervision

The Psychology Board defines face-to-face supervision to mean physically present in the same setting at the same time, which cannot be facilitated through electronic media.

Filing a Complaint

Our Investigations section oversees following up on all complaints. To initiate that process, please complete the online report of contact form found at this link: Investigations – Request for Contact (#08-4604). You can email the Investigations division at Investigations@alaska.gov.

Contacting the Board

Board members contacted individually cannot respond on behalf of the Board, as the entire Board must have all discussions on the record in scheduled meetings. If you were to contact all Board members, this could be seen as a violation of the Open Meetings Act by the Board members.
