Food Security Grant Program DCRA is administering a Food Security Grant Program to improve food security in Alaska. $1,500,000.00 is available to eligible Food Banks and Food Pantries across Alaska. When communities are food secure, families and individuals are better able to lead productive and healthy lives that contribute to the sustainability of their community. Supporting food security aligns with DCRA’s mission to help Alaska’s communities build sustainable economies and a means of self-governance. All Alaskans face food security challenges given our remote geographic location in relation to high food production areas. Factors such as, food costs, shipping costs, and access to community support services play significant roles in achieving food security in Alaska. “One of the lessons we learned from the pandemic is that Alaska is situated at the end of the west coast supply chain, and that puts us at great risk if a disaster or national emergency strikes,” said Governor Dunleavy. The Food Security Grant Program may be used to create disaster food caches within the State, within the community, to assist individual households during emergency and disaster events. The Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHS&EM) recommends a minimum of a three-day supply per household. DCRA’s Food Security Grant Program is intended to prioritize distribution to underserved populations. Note of clarification - only those entities required by statute (AS 43.70.110(1)) to have a business license are required to attach a copy to their application.
