Regulation of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists Education Qualifications for a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant Registration AS 08.11.043(a)(1) requires that as part of the SLPA license application include proof that an individual has successfully completed either an associate of applied science degree in disabilities with a speech-language support emphasis either from the University of Alaska Anchorage in affiliation with Prince William Sound Community College or from another approved program; or a bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited institution. Recognizing that it’s impossible to obtain the specified degree from Prince William Sound Community College and that the specific program mentioned is an outdated degree pathway for this profession, the division has determined the following credentials are also acceptable as “another approved program” under AS 08.11.043(a)(1)(A) to meet the requirements of AS 08.11.043(a): American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) SLPA certification (C-SLPA). UAA Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant certificate plus a course in Introductory Communication Disorders (e.g. UAA EDSL A201). Reference UAA SLP Director letter (09/14/21). A bachelor’s degree in any subject combined with a post-baccalaureate certificate in speech language pathology from an accredited university. A bachelor’s degree in any subject combined with documentation of successful completion of all courses necessary to obtain a post-baccalaureate certificate in speech language pathology from an accredited university. An associate of applied science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from any accredited educational institution.
